Gout-Synovitis
Gout causes inflammatory arthritis, characterized by erythema, pain, and edema of the involved joint on examination.
Patient 1:
This is an older man with a history of a alcohol abuse who presented with a painful left elbow. Arthrocentesis revealed needle-shaped crystals with strongly negative brefringence under polarized light, confirming the diagnosis of gout.
