Coarse Facies

Patients have coarse facial features as a result of soft tissue and cartilage overgrowth.

Patient 1:

This is a young woman who was admitted to the hospital for surgical removal of a pituitary tumor after being diagnosed with acromegaly. She experienced years of symptoms before the diagnosis was made. She had seen multiple doctors but the diagnosis remained elusive. Acromegaly was finally diagnosed when she saw a naturopath.

This patient also has frontal bossing and soft tissue enlargement.

Patient 2:

This is a middle-aged woman with acromegaly. She was diagnosed and treated for several years before these photos were taken. But the features tend to persist.

This patient also has macrognathia.
